If I think of Christmas or the holiday season, I instantly think of gingerbread cookies and homemade Chex mix. They were two staples that were always in my house growing up around the holidays.

There would be a jar of gingerbread cookies on the counter, always. Then a stash of homemade Chex mix was hidden somewhere in the pantry where my siblings and I couldn’t find it and devour it.

I am telling you this Chex Mix is actual food crack. I am more of a “salty” girl and prefer salty over sweet, but man you just can’t stop eating this stuff. Not only that, but it is INFINITELY better than the store-bought kind. Infinitely better, hands down, no questions asked.

The best part is, this recipe is legit on the side of the Chex cereal box, but per usual, I made some tweaks to it so I am adding what I did here.

*Note: This can make 3 batches if you buy all the ingredients together. It’s definitely worth it because it goes quick, plus it can be a great gift!

Ingredients for 1 Batch:

3 Cups of each: Rice Chex cereal, Corn Chex cereal, Wheat Chex cereal, and Cheerios

1 Cup of mini or bite-size pretzels (I prefer the skinny sticks, but ended up using butter snaps)

1 Cup of Mixed Nuts or Peanuts (I use peanuts because my dad is allergic to all other nuts)

6 tablespoons of butter (I ended up using 7 at the end)

2 tablespoons of Worcester sauce

1 ½ teaspoon of salt

¾ teaspoon of garlic powder

½ teaspoon of onion powder

Directions:

Step 1: Mix the different Chex cereals, Cheerios, pretzels, and peanuts in a big bowl and set aside. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees, and take out a big roasting pan. If you don’t have a roasting pan, they sell big disposable ones at Stop n Shop.

Step 2: Melt the butter in the microwave, and then mix in the worcester sauce and the other seasonings and set aside.

Step 3: Add dry ingredients to the roasting pan and then pour the mixture over the dry ingredients evenly. Then mix it all up so that the mixture is evenly coating all of the dry ingredients. It doesn’t look like enough of a mixture, but I promise you it is.

Step 4: Bake in the oven for 1 hour, and every 15 minutes take it out to mix the ingredients again to make sure they are evenly coated.

Step 5: Take it out, let it cool, and enjoy!

*When storing, make sure it is in a sealed container. =]

Be careful when eating, you literally can’t stop once you start… I hope you enjoy it!
