Girl reading a book by pool

Recently I was asked by my boss Danny Cahill to be a guest on his podcast and discuss which books I suggest people should add to their summer reading lists. Danny knows that I am a bit of a self-help nut, as there is nothing I love more than to read a great book on the beach. It’s my FAVORITE thing to do. In the whole.wide.world.

When Danny asked me, I was more than happy to rattle off some of my all-time favorites. Once the podcast was over, I realized that I had only scratched the surface and that there is a drastic difference between the types of literature I read/listen to–depending on my location and day of the week. So, I thought my blog was a great chance to not only share with you the books I mentioned on the podcast, but also to clarify what I read, when and why.

For starters, you must know that Emily on a Monday morning driving to work is a drastically different individual than Emily on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon during the summer… “Monday Emily” is slightly tired because Mondays are Mondays, but overall, I am really motivated and ready to take on the week and overcome and excel at whatever life throws at me. To no surprise, the books I choose to read on weekdays tend to follow that type of mindset. For example, some of the books are about financing, public speaking, health and diet, positive mindsets, etc. They are also all mostly through the Amazon Audible app. I have a longer commute to the office, so I kill time by crushing books during my drive!

Then Friday rolls around and an entirely new Emily emerges from the ashes. This person wants nothing to do with work and only wants to play. Once the weekend arrives, all the fun books come out. Romance, thrillers, and dramatic fiction books are out to play for the weekend.

SO here they are- just a few of my “weekly reads” and some weekend “beach reads”, that are on the top of my go-to reading list:

The Orphans of Race Point – Patry Francis
